Do I just disconnect the tv or have him committed finally? How do you deal with a husband who believes every medical drug advertisement pertains to him?
File a class action suit against him for having to deal with persistent hypochondria..
hey it's the US, you can sue him!!How do you deal with a husband who believes every medical drug advertisement pertains to him?
well he is what we call a hypercondriac. A person with hypochondria is preoccupied with physical health and body. The diagnosis is used when a person during at least 6 months believes, fears or is convinced that he has a serious disease despite medical reassurance. This fear of disease or preoccupation with symptoms is unpleasant, interferes with the patient's daily life in a negative way and leads to medical examinations and/or treatment. The patient can only temporarily accept assurance that there is no physical explanation to his symptoms....
Inform him of what the placebo effect is! lol Otherwise, I agree with the other answerer's. Take him to the doctor with a complete list of what he thinks is wrong with him. Go down the list (maybe he'll feel a little embaressed) and prove them either right or wrong. Next time tell him he will be going solo.
Or reverse psychology...maybe act like you completely agree or flip it around and start doing the same thing. When you see a commercial act like you are worried you might be a ';sufferer'; too lol
I'm sorry to hear about this. Because some cases are serious, hopefully his are not!
He couldn't possibly have all those medical problems, if he did, he'd certainly be a pretty sick man.
Keep him away from the doctors. They love to shell out meds and diagnostic tests that people don't need. But someone has to pay for it.
Many people with hypochondriasis end up spending thousands of dollars, seeing a number of different doctors, and undergoing tests and treatments (even surgery) that they don't need. It's sad.
Replace his pills with vitamins without telling him.
Those drug commercials always make it sound like it is for everyone. They say things like ';Do you have anxiety? Trouble sleeping sometimes? Bad thoughts about yourself at times? At times you are excited, only to be let down later?'; They list things that EVERY person in the world has problems with at times. They do that on purpose so that you will buy their drugs. Just tell him that he is exactly the kind of person they want to think needs their drugs. He needs to stop being gullible and falling for every trap that ad campaigns are setting. I'd hate to see how he gets taken advantage of when he goes car shopping or to a flee market.
Take him to your doctor for a complete physical, blood work, test for diseases, the works. Then he will know for sure what he has and what he don't have. Get a legible printout of the test results and the next time he starts thinking he got something, bring out the test results.
Have him commited. My wife's the same way. She has every symptom of every problem. She sees them and says ';that's what I need for my....depression, arthritis, insomnia, psoriasis...and yadayad. Let's send them both off to the funny farm together...they can compare notes on their afflictions.
Dope slap him then disconnect the T.V. and throw it into a burning trash heap. Or have him call one of the numbers they give on the commercial and have him proved wrong. Husbands are like kids if you humor them they leave you alone.
just nod your head and smile ,let him figure out he's not sick on his own. If he has a problem see your doc. Maybe if you divulge in it he'll realize he's being silly. Maybe you should act just like him to show how he's acting.
He's a hypochondriac. The commercials are targetting people like him. Pathetic, isn't it. Ignore him, and let him call them as much as he wants. He will soon realize he is making a fool of himself.
Prevent him from viewing all commercials, except possibly any Viagra or male enhancement commercials. If that does not work use ear plugs and a blind fold.
So he's got depression, restless leg syndrome, pms cramps, herpes, over active bladder, needs gastric bypass, erectile dysfunction, dry eye AND high cholesterol? Damn....I hope ya'll have health insurance!
Hi's a hypochondriac. Don't pay any attention to him and tell him that one day, he'll really be sick and you won't believe him.
Restless leg syndrome! Side effect is Light handedness, dizziness. vomiting, and inability to urinate.....
Shoot him in the a#$ with a tranquilizer and tell him everythings going to be okay.
hypochondria!
take him to the doctor to prove that there isnt anything wrong with him and maybe they can give you a few tips on how to calm him down
haha. he's funny.
he's probably just funny.
or a really big idiot and you need a divorce.
He's a hypocondriach. They can treat that. I think.
Give him one of your woman's health magazines, if he still feels that way, have him committed.
Hypochondriac much?
well let him take the pills, then he'll have to deal with his own consequences later.
distract him with sex...nothing makes you feel beter than seratonin and dopamine...
